Ethylene dichloride
Ethylene dichloride is a colorless yellowish liquid with a faint odor similar to chloroform. This chemical, called EDC for short, is the main mediator in the production of polyvinyl chloride. It is obtained from the reaction of ethylene and chlorine in the presence of an iron chloride catalyst. It is also produced by the reaction of ethylene oxychloride in the presence of a copper chloride catalyst. And in the production of vinyl chloride monomer, it is used as a main intermediate material in the production of PVC, solvent production and pioneer detergent.
