Ethanolamine, also known as 2-aminoathan or monoethanolamine, is an organic chemical compound with the formula HOCH2CH2NH2. This combination is often abbreviated to ETA and MEA. This molecule is composed of type 1 amine and type 1 alcohol and is a viscous, colorless liquid with an ammonia odor. Ethanolamine is commonly known as monoethanolamine or MEA to distinguish it from diethanolamine (DEA) and triethanolamine (TEA). This compound is used as a raw material in the production of detergents, emulsifiers, waxes, anti-corrosion coatings and intermediate chemicals.
